The technology
In fact, the technique of microblading is very different from the powder brows technique. During microblading, the fine eyebrow hairs are traced into the top layer of skin with a kind of small scalpel and filled with color. Some people find the procedure a little painful; shortly after microblading, the skin can be very red, but it usually heals quickly. With the powder technique of the so-called Powder Brows, permanent color is worked into the skin layer using a fine nano-needle, similar to a tattoo needle. No lines are drawn, but the skin is shaded with small dots under the natural hairs. This creates the powder-like effect. The eyebrows may be slightly swollen and red after the procedure. In some cosmetic salons, the powder brows technique is also offered as microshading for eyebrows.
The appearance
Microblading looks very natural as it simply fills in the gaps in your own brows. This means that the eyebrows look natural even if no make-up is otherwise applied.
Powder brows look thicker and more expressive, with the shading really looking like it was hand-applied. This makes the brows stand in greater contrast to the unmade-up face, especially on light skin and hair types.
The durability
There is also a big difference when it comes to the durability of the color: While microblading can usually last between six and twelve months - or up to two years depending on the skin type, the permanent make-up for powder brows lasts up to three years. An important factor for durability is the condition of the skin: the color usually lasts shorter on oily skin than on normal or dry skin. In a personal consultation in our studios in Zurich and Lucerne or online, your specialist from Swiss Happy Brows can analyze your skin type and advise you whether microblading is suitable for you.
